Joe Posnanski (of the Kansas City Star and SI.com) has two really good blog posts on the Baseball Hall of Fame. If that topic interests you, definitely read them.

He makes a pretty strong case for Bert Blyleven. I’ve always though Bert shouldn’t be in the Hall of Fame, mostly because I just can’t get over the fact he only made two All-Star games in his entire career.
However, I think Posnanski has changed my view of that. He makes a pretty strong case for him.
You are a fool if your biggest reasoning for Bert not getting into the Hall of Fame is a lack of All Star Game appearances. That voting is too subjective, and Bert had no control over it. Look career ERA, K’s, and his record in 1-0 games.
I know it’s subjective, but I find two to be a remarkably low number. That’s one more than Coomer, one more than Laudner.
Especially for a guy that supposedly played for so many bad teams. In a sport where every team gets at least one representative, you would think playing for such poor offensive teams would have increased his chances of making All-Star games since someone from those teams had to be picked.
