Here’s a few good links for you as the Red River crests this Sunday afternoon:
- Great story by Chad Jennings of the Poughkeepsie Journal on former Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks outfielder Jon Weber, who once again is having a big spring training but appears to have no hope whatsoever of making a big league roster. This time, it’s with the defending champion New York Yankees. Weber says life in baseball has been tough as he chases a major league job, even staying, "I’m not going to lie to you, there are nights when I cry myself to sleep because I miss my family," he said. "Of course every kid needs their parents around, mom and dad. Hopefully when they get older they’ll understand why I was gone, because I want them to have nice stuff." Only problem with the story? The RedHawks are in the Northern League, not Frontier League.
- The Hardball Times’ Joshua Fisher examines five questions surrounding the Minnesota Twins as they head into Opening Day.
- The Hardball Times’ Jeff Sackmann looks at the best approach Carlos Gomez can use at the plate with his new team, the Milwaukee Brewers.
- And finally, ESPN’s Buster Olney says that Joe Mauer’s agent, Mark Shapiro, has been seen back in Fort Myers, Fla., again. These contract extension reports are exhausting, but I’ll mention it anyway.
