Decades from now, maybe Mike Lamb can tell his grandkids, "I guess I made room for Michael Stanton."
Lamb – who played 81 forgettable games with the Minnesota Twins in 2008 before getting released – was designated for assignment by the Florida Marlins before Tuesday’s game to give way to the promotion of outfield prospect Michael Stanton.
Stanton – considered to be the best position player prospect in the minors – will make his major league debut tonight against the Philadephia Phillies.
Stanton belted 21 homers in 52 games at Double-A, yet he’s flying under the radar since last year’s No. 1 overall pick Stephen Strasburg will be on a big league mound for the first time tonight for the Washington Nationals.
I think the Marlins played their cards right by calling up Stanton. If it wasn’t for Strasburg, all eyes would be on the Florida youngster tonight. Instead, I think a lot of pressure has been taken off of him.
